Biography
Working between Munich and Seoul, Minjae Lee explores the invisible layers of “anxiety,” expanding it beyond personal sensation toward a social dimension. Taking the German term “Angst”—an emotion that is difficult to define clearly in words—as a key motif, he traces its presence through the multiple languages of installation and performance.
In his work, the “room” is not a simple backdrop but a spatial device that structures bodily sensation and emotion. Bodies isolated in tight spaces, amplified breathing, and seemingly meaningless repetitive actions build up tension and discomfort for the audience, while the performer’s body becomes a medium that holds these feelings and brings them to the surface.
At the moment when perception expands and unfamiliar discomfort arises, the audience moves beyond being mere observers: they remain within a resonant space and confront their own anxieties. By composing situations where emotions are transmitted and shared through the relationship between body and space, Lee continues to investigate how an unseen anxiety can be transformed into a collective sense.
