Biography
Donghoon Rhee carves plants, animals, and human figures from wood, then observes the sculptures and translates them into paintings. He explores the forms of plants and the movements of human figures that emerge through the process of wood carving. He carefully considers how to observe the sculptures and how to translate them into paintings. At times, the textures created by carving tools and chainsaws influence the surface and texture of his paintings. Recently, he has been exploring sculptural forms using paper, creating shapes distinct from those made with wood.
