Biography
Sunghyeop Seo calls the method of mixing shared sensations by various mediums a ‘topological’ process. Seo attempts to define the sensation derived from this process as ‘topological sensation’ and solidify it as an independent concept. The artist utilizes this methodology to investigate how to deepen the topological sensations existing inside dynamic relationships between traditional and contemporary, visual art and music, performer and audience, human and non-human, and more. Recently, Seo has been interested in the concept of ‘mutants’ while exploring the combination method of mediums and formats. He questions the idea of ‘purity’ (not mixed) and attempts to restore the infinite potentials that get neglected during the purification process. He then recreates what is ‘pure’ as ‘mutants’ to create breakage and gaps in the narratives created by such purity for alternative systems and mindsets to seep in.
